RatCraft

Congratulations! You recently opened a potion store in the forest to help friendly critters. As a Ratpothocary, you must work with a custom cauldron controller to draw shapes and form ingredients. Combine three ingredients to brew a potion for every customer that enters your potion shop.

Goal: A game that doesn't use traditional keyboard/controller input (we chose a custom MakeyMakey "cauldron" controller)

Custom Controller

I collaborated with one of my programmers to develop a custom controller that was easy to set up, consistently worked, and looked aesthetically pleasing. We struggled for a while because we didn't realize that ink is conductive.

Playtesting

Learning how important playtesting was made a huge difference in this project because of the amount of data we collected and iterated on. The shapes players draw changed throughout development and we got lots of feedback on the spellbook UI, allowing us to pivot.

What I Learned

I learned that having concise but thorough documentation is extremely useful when working with a team because it allowed for clearer communication and made sure everyone had the same vision for the game.
